Starting September 29th, shoppers will see a lot more foods labeled with the country in which they were grown.  The COOL law (country-of-origin-labeling) requires retailers to notify customers of the country of origin, including the U.S., of raw beef, veal, lamb, pork, chicken, goat, wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish, fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables and peanuts.  Find out more at www.ams.usda.gov.

A few well-chosen words (750 or less to be exact) could help you out with your college tuition.  The Mental Floss Tuition Giveaway is underway and runs through January 31, 2009.  All you have to do is answer the question: “Why are you the most deserving person on the planet to win a scholarship?”  The contest is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada who are full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited 2 or 4 year college in fall 2009.  Five winners will get $10,000 to help with their tuition.  Get more info here.
